Classes for Secondary Schools

Art of Living Programme
​for 
Transition Year Students

This educational programme helps students improve personal and social skills relevant to the development of healthy life-styles and building up personal confidence, transferable to many other areas. All materials are provided, including lunch, which the students will plan, prepare and cook daily. Parents are invited to the meal on the last day hosted by the students.

This programme runs over 3 days. You can choose some modules and reduce it to 2 or 1 day programme. 
(20 students minimum)
 
Course Goals
Team work, attention to detail, hard-work, development of Management, Culinary and Home Arts skills.
  
Instruction Method
Interactive workshops, hands-on practical experience, didactic games, videos, power-point presentations.
 
Certification
Record of skills and competencies attained.

Course Content
1. Culinary Skills. Learn how to plan a meal (nutritional content, budgeting, timing), prepare and cook in our state-of-the-art facilities.
2. Home Sweet Home. Learn how to look after your own home. It includes vacuum & dusting, making beds and cleaning bathrooms.
3. Becoming Me. Part of character development, covering topics like 'The real you is the impression that will last', fashion and importance of good manners.
4. The Perfect Hostess. We will cover skills like flower arrangement, napkin folds, meet and greet, etiquette, etc. 
5. Event Management. Plan and implement your own event at the Culinary School. Parents are invited to a meal hosted by the students.

Course Fee
This course runs from 9.30am – 3.00pm daily.

Culinary Skills for Life

A great opportunity to let the students work as and with chefs, to introduce them to possible careers in the food industry.

Class Content
Based on the chosen theme, they will get a demonstration on the dishes selected, which they will cook themselves. The standard class covers three dishes (e.g. main course, sides and dessert) which they have for their lunch, and an extra dish to bring home. 


Some themes you may choose from: 
- Italian Food
- French Cuisine
- Spanish Food
- Pastry 
- Traditional Irish Cooking

The course also includes ideas on meal presentation, setting the table, table etiquette, etc. Copies of the recipes will be given to all participants. 

Time
Class times, between 3 and 4.5 hours, are flexible between 9.30am and 3.00pm.
 
Class Fee
The class fee includes all materials and ingredients, together with lunch.  The lunch will comprise the dishes the children themselves have prepared and cooked.

For a once-off class: €10 per child per hour, subject to 8 children minimum.

What you need to bring:
      - An Apron
      - A pen to take notes
      - A lunch box to take home the cake they baked

BOOKING TERMS & CONDITIONS
1. A non-refundable 25% deposit must be attached when returning the completed agreement form.
2. Bookings are accepted and confirmed in writing by post/email only when deposits are received. A receipt will be issued then.
3. Full payment must be made prior to the event commencing.
4. Cancellation Policy
      a) The class may be transferred to another suitable date agreed by both parties 4 weeks prior to start date.
      b) Cancellations are subject to the following charges:  Within 4 weeks – 25%; 1 week – 50%; Less than 7 days – 75%; Failure to arrive – 100%
5. Lismullin School of Culinary & Home Arts reserves the right to alter or amend content.  Any changes will be notified in advance.
6. Bookings are accepted on the basis that no responsibility is accepted by Lismullin School of Culinary & Home Arts for any injury, damage or loss to a participant’s property or person, however caused.
7. All participants agree to be bound by the Health & Safety regulations of the Culinary School.
8. Group organiser’s responsibility: for group bookings, we ask that the entire group be made aware of the booking terms and conditions and each person’s consent (parents’ consent for minors-under age 18) is given prior to activities.
9. All participants under the age of 18 have received parental/guardian’s consent to participate in each activity. The school/group leader need to retain evidence that they have notified parents and inform Lismullin School of Culinary & Home Arts that it has been done 2 days prior to the event. 
10. Notification of any food allergies/intolerances need to be sent to Lismullin School of Culinary & Home Arts at least 2 days prior to the class. This is essential for running the event so that all participants, including those with allergies, nut intolerance etc. can be covered.
11. A list of names of all attendees is required 2 days prior to the event.
12. From time to time photographs may be taken during events. These photographs will only be used for records and appropriate display publications for the Lismullin School of Culinary & Home Arts. Unless stated otherwise, we understand you agree. The school/group leader need to retain evidence that they have notified parents and inform Lismullin School of Culinary & Home Arts that it has been done, 2 days prior to the event. 
13. If a person has a severe food allergy please let us know in advance. Although we will do our best to suit dietary requirements, we cannot guarantee that the ingredients used are free of all traces of such allergens.  ​​
